Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den betting is illegal. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship casino, contains 150 slot machines and sixty table games. The Naga casino is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel compound that highlights a number of amenities accompanying the gambling den, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 tables.
