There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino betting is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; still, funding sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of many borders.

The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling hall, highlights 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel building that highlights numerous amenities aside from the casino, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
