Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the border from nearby Thailand, where casino gambling is not allowed. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is real of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel compound that contains many comforts aside from the casino, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight tables.
